2022-2023
DEC 9: pitches and notes winter concert!
Quite possibly our favorite memory from the entire semester! Pitches and Notes, the insanely talented upper-voices group that won ICCA finals last year, invited us to sing with them at their winter concert at The University of Wisconsin-Madison. We certainly have a lot to say about this trip — the car ride there was filled with fun, good playlists, and chaos, the spectacular performance we witnessed left us in awe, and the post-concert hangout & party is a night we’ll remember forever. We’re super thankful for our new friends — we love Pitches & Notes!!
dec 4: sa re ga ma pella
We had such a blast putting on our first concert of the year! We sang some fresh arrangements and introduced our newbies!! We were so grateful for the support from family and friends. Special thanks to Wolveraas for a fantastic intermission act!

dec 2: state of fifths fall concert
State of Fifths, an incredibly talented A Cappella group at Michigan State University, invited us to perform at their fall concert! We had so much fun traveling to East Lansing and hanging out with State of Fifths and the other group who performed, Euphoria :)
nov 13: maccfest
We had so much fun singing Pyramids for the rest of Michigan’s A Cappella community. Check out our Youtube for a recording of the performance! Huge thanks to Michigan A Cappella Council for putting on a wonderful show! We are so inspired by all the other groups and their talent :)

APR 2: 15th anniversary CONCERT
We closed off the year strong with our annual spring concert, this year at Kahn Auditorium :) We got to honor our seniors and share some laughs and tears. You can watch the livestream here.
MAR 19: ICCA 2022 SEMIFINALS
We are ecstatic to announce that Mirchi earned second place at the ICCA Great Lakes Semifinals at the Athenaeum Center in Chicago! We are so proud of our wonderful member Ayush Jain for earning Best Vocal Percussion for “Retrograde”!
We are also so proud of the 9 other groups who made it there, especially Pitches and Notes for scoring first place and Voices in Your Head for third! We had a great time in Chicago, performing, hanging out/seeing the city, and spending time with some of our alumni.
FEB 12: icca 2022 quarterfinals
We are so honored and excited to share that Mirchi earned first place at the ICCA Great Lakes Quarterfinals at Hill Auditorium. We are also SO proud of our arrangers Varun Kumaravel, Sumedha Vadlapudi, Ryan Hsu, Ayush Jain, and Kiran Mangrulkar for earning us Best Arrangement—for the whole set!
We also want to congratulate all 9 other lovely, talented groups who competed with us, especially the DJs for securing second place and the Oakland University Gold Vibrations for third! We are very grateful for the chance to perform this set once more in Chicago on March 19th!!

jan 28: WINTER RETREAT
Though filled with fun, some senior activities, and lots of food, we spent the weekend gearing up for ICCA quarterfinals and memorizing our competition arrangements.
dec 3: SA RE GA MA PELLA
We had such a blast putting on our first fall concert since almost 2 years! We were so grateful for the turnout and being able to sing for a full audience again. Special thanks to Michigan Taal for a fantastic intermission act!

NOV 19: FALL RETREAT
We spent the weekend getting to know our newbies and bonding (we sang a little, too.)
SEPT 6-9: AUDITIONS (NEWBS!)
After convincing tons of singers (and shower singers) at FestiFall and AcaRush to sing for us, we held a packed week of auditions and welcomed seven newbies to Maize Mirchi! See their beautiful faces here. Thank you to everyone who auditioned for us!
sept 5: ACARUSH 2021!
This year we were able to have an in-person AcaRush 2021! We performed alongside University of Michigan’s other talented A Cappella groups and got to meet-and-greet with some wonderful potential newbies!

13 Mar: ICCA 2021 QUARTERFINALS
Midway through the semester, Maize Mirchi participated in the ICCA Great Lakes Quarterfinals, hosted by Varsity Vocals. We placed third in our bracket and newbie Jill Vaishnav ran off with an award for outstanding soloist! You can watch our performance here.
8 Nov: Retreat
Maize Mirchi headed out of town one day for our biannual retreat! It was a blessing to be able to catch up, sing, and see each-others faces for more than the brief rehearsal time we have each week. We are all very thankful for one another <3
4, 8-9 Sept: Auditions (NEWBS!)
Despite an unusual semester, Maize Mirchi was fortunate to welcome four new members to the group! Thank you to everyone that auditioned as well as the Aca-Rush committee for adapting to this challenging year!
3 Sept: AcaRush 2020 + Maize Mirchi Meet & Greet
Maize Mirchi participated in Michigan A Capella’s virtual Acarush 2020 along with the many other wonderful groups at the University of Michigan. We hope that potential members are excited to audition and were able to learn about us at the Meet & Greet :)

7 MAR: Awaazein 2020
Just under a month after our last competition, Maize Mirchi placed third at Awaazein 2020 at UT Dallas in Texas! Congratulations to UT Hum for their stunning winner performance, as well as Rutgers RAAG for second place.
Super special appreciation for our 4 amazing liaisons: Vanshika, Chai, Dan, and Karvi! We had so much fun hanging out with them.

8 FEB: ICCA 2020 QUARTERFINALS
We are so honoured and excited to share that Mirchi earned second place at the ICCA Great Lakes Quarterfinals at Hill Auditorium. We are also SO proud of two of our beloved members, Spencer Harris and Kiran Mangrulkar for earning Outstanding Arrangement and Outstanding Soloist respectively — both for “The Wilhelm Scream”! We also want to congratulate all 9 other lovely, talented groups who competed with us, especially the DJs for securing first place and GVSU Euphoria for third! We are very grateful for the chance to perform this set once more in the beautiful Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on 28 March :D

Mirchi had so much fun putting on a wonderful show with our friends Michigan Sahana and Wayne State’s Wayne ki Awaaz. We were also so honoured to feature the talented Improfessionals and Encore!
Special thanks to U-M’s Passport to the Arts program, which allowed students to attend our concert for free!
We are proud and humbled to share a portion of our profits from this event with Paani, a non-profit org on campus that provides water resources to communities in Pakistan.

18 April: Album Fundraiser 2019
A huge thank you to our supporters for helping us achieve our goal of $3000 to fund our album. The recording train is chugging along, and we’re getting closer and closer to the end of the tracks. Sigh. Patience is a virtue! In the meantime, go watch some old Mirchi minutes xD

5 April: winter concert
…And another year has come and gone. We had a wonderful end-of-year concert and said bittersweet goodbyes to our two GOAT seniors, Ellie Olds and Arooshee Giroti. We will miss them oh so much :(
